Every year, the Quarterback Club of Denver sponsors the Most Valuable Football Award, and the Club President presents the award at the Graduation Awards ceremony.

On Tuesday, 31 May, President Bill Blumberg presented this year’s award to defensive lineman Alex Hansen.

Most Valuable Football Player: Senior Alex Hansen was third on the team and tops for all defensive linemen in tackles with 70. He led the team in tackles for loss with 15.5 and sacks with 7.5. Hansen, who earned first-team all-Mountain West honors this season, had a stop behind the line of scrimmage in 11 straight and 12 of 14 games this season. Hansen blocked two kicks this season, a field goal at Michigan State and a PAT vs. San Jose State.

Athletic Leadership Award: Senior Alex Hansen was elected team captain by his teammates and considered one of the best players head coach Troy Calhoun has coached at the Academy. Hansen was third on the team and tops for all defensive linemen in tackles with 70. He led the team in tackles for loss with 15.5 and sacks with 7.5. Hansen, who earned first-team all-Mountain West honors this season, had a stop behind the line of scrimmage in 11 straight and 12 of 14 games this season. Alex also was awarded the coveted Brian Bullard Memorial Award at the Air Force Football Banquet in February.  Click to see the announcement of that award.

Alex and his parents, Chris Hansen and Karen Kalenowski, thanked Bill and the Quarterback Club for sponsoring the award.  He will be going to pilot training at Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio, TX – the United States Air Force busiest pilot training complex in the world.
